Gun Control

I struggle when it comes to discussing political issues. I rarely have an opinion about anything and tend to be pretty neutral-minded when it comes to politics. And you know what, I'll just put it out there and say that politics bore me to tears. Sorry, but it's the truth! I find this funny though, because I can put up a good debate and I can be argumentative, but not in this area. Maybe that will change one day. For now, I'll have to give this a shot seeing as I started this blog for a Constitutional Law class I'm currently taking. I thought I'd start off by discussing a recent hot topic - gun control.

Let's just take a quick look at the executive actions President Obama initiated regarding gun control. Click here for a link.

I found myself forming somewhat of an opinion while reading a few articles. Sometimes all I need to do is read a few of the comments people post. See articles here, here, here and here.

Basically, my short opinion boils down to this: I don't believe any of this will work. I feel like it's the "war on drugs" all over again, but instead we'll call it the "war on guns". Start putting restrictions on guns and people will find out ways to get them anyway. Maybe we should also focus on other things like the mental issues some of these criminals might be suffering from? Yeah, violence in video games and movies is bad and maybe that's contributing to all this too, but it's not going away either. It's sad that people (and children) have to die at the hands of criminals, but not much will come of new actions on gun violence.

What are your thoughts on gun control?
